I’m sure may people can relate to this; you’ve probably heard an outlandish myth about beards at some point during your growth journey. Here are five of the most common beard myths and why you shouldn’t take them too serious;

MYTH - “BIG BEARDS ARE UNHYGIENIC”

This is a false narrative and the truth is the length of the beard does not determine how clean the beard is, this is solely down to the individual. However, it is important to stress that bigger beards may collect more dirt than short and stubble beards, so if you have a big beard or are looking to grow a big beard, you need to be committed to washing your beard on a regular basis to keep it clean and healthy.

MYTH - “PATCHY BEARD STAYS PATCHY FOREVER”

Growing a healthy full beard takes time. In the early stages your beard may not fill out properly in all the right places and you may end up having a patchy beard. The key is to stay patient as this will most certainly fill out with time, however it is worth noting that genetics and some medical reasons may stunt growth in certain areas but more often than not your beard will fill out if you stay consistent with your routine and just give it time to grow.

MYTH - “BEARDS ARE ITCHY “

Having an itchy beard during the early stages of your growth journey is normal but after your beard grows past the stubble stage it is important to apply beard oil regularly to keep the skin underneath hydrated and provide the beard with some moisture to stop the itchiness. Beards are generally not itchy if you take care of it properly.

MYTH - “BEARDS ARE TOO HOT FOR THE SUMMER”

This is another big myth that stops people from keeping a beard during the summertime. In reality your beard can shield the lower half of your face from the heat of the sun and wick away sweat, creating a cooling airflow.

MYTH - “SHAVING MAKES YOUR BEARD GROW QUICKER AND THICKER”

This is probably the most common of all the myths. There is no scientific evidence to back up the claim that shaving your beard makes it grow back faster or quicker. The appearance of a fuller thicker beard can be down to the individual’s genetics so it doesn’t matter how many times you shave off your beard it may just never grow back thicker.
